Concerns raised over ‘safe’ herbicide bensulfuron-methyl

As official findings show that rice herbicide bensulfuron-methyl is safe for consumers, NGO Pesticide Action Network Europe has said it should not be approved for use in the EU

As official findings show that rice herbicide bensulfuron-methyl is safe for consumers, NGO Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN Europe) has said it should not be approved for use in the EU.

Earlier this week, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) found that the herbicide was safe for consumers.

EFSA said: “Based on the assessment of the available data, MRL proposals were derived and a consumer risk assessment was carried out. All information required by the regulatory framework was present and a risk to consumers was not identified.”
