In 2015, the EU increased its funding to help developing countries cut emissions and adapt to climate change by a fifth to €17.6bn, the European Commission reported on Tuesday.

The amount, up from 14.5bn in 2014, was confirmed at a meeting of a member state expert committee on Monday ahead of next month’s UN climate conference in Marrakech. The conference will focus on implementing the Paris Agreement, with climate finance considered to be a crucial element in achieving this.
