The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is launching a project to develop methods to assess risks from exposures to multiple chemicals at the same time.
Conventional risk assessments focus on a single chemical. But this does not fully reflect real life because both people and the natural environment are exposed to a wide variety of chemicals at the same time. They may have synergistic ‘cocktail effects’ or even act antagonistically, complicating efforts to assess their impact.
