NGOs have calculated that the maximum sustainable level of bioenergy use across Europe in 2030 is 152 million tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe), ahead of the publication of European Commission proposals for a new EU bioenergy policy.

This summer, environmental groups called on the Commission to set a cap on bioenergy use by 2030. In a briefing paper Birdlife International and Transport & Environment set out what they think this should be.
