Total wind power generation capacity in the EU grew by almost 10% to 169 gigawatts last year, according to fresh data from the industry association Wind Europe, with a rush to benefit from outgoing state support schemes driving much of the deployment.

Germany remains unassailable in its position as the EU’s leader in wind energy, with a combined deployment of 6.5GW providing 42% of the new capacity added last year, according to the association.
