A group of EU environment ministers could call on the Commission to reinforce climate spending and mainstreaming in the post-2020 budget to support the bloc’s 2030 targets and Paris goals, a document seen by ENDS suggests.

In a draft statement seen by ENDS the Green Growth Group of ministers from 16 member states says the annual investment gap to meet the EU’s 2030 climate and energy targets and Paris goals is €180bn from 2021, and calls for an urgent “significant increase” of climate friendly investments to be supported through the next multiannual financial framework (MFF).
