Socialist candidate for the European Commission presidency Frans Timmermans has pledged to place the UN’s sustainable development goals at the heart of his administration, should he succeed Jean-Claude Juncker in the EU’s top job.

Timmermans, first vice-president of the Commission, who was formally appointed as the Party of European Socialists’ candidate in December, stressed his commitment to the SDGs as he spoke to lawmakers in Brussels on Thursday.
