Environmental organisations are calling on EU governments to prepare a climate plan for energy intensive industries, as EU ministers begin talks on the EU’s long-term climate strategy on Monday.
In November 2018, the European Commission presented a strategy with eight scenarios on how Europe should tackle climate change within a 2050 horizon. Five pathways lead to emissions reductions of 80% compared to 1990, as agreed by EU leaders before the Paris Agreement. A sixth one could lead to emission cuts of 90%, and two would aim at full carbon neutrality by 2050.
