A Norwegian proposal to tackle marine pollution by extending UN rules on international shipment of hazardous waste to recovered plastic is supported by EU governments, a European Commission official said on Friday.

“It's too early to give details of the position, but what I can say is that discussions so far in Council have been very positive and there is a clear support of member states to the objective of the proposal,” said Sarah Nelen, head of waste management in the executive's environment directorate.
