A European Parliament decision to grant greater public access to industry data on new food additives, pesticides and genetically modified organisms has been welcomed by civil society groups.

MEPs on Wednesday approved new rules, already agreed with EU ministers in February, which are intended to ensure the EU’s risk assessment procedure for food safety is more reliable, transparent and objective. The rules were passed with 603 votes in favour, 17 against and 27 abstentions.
