The gas industry has called for the EU to support the expansion of research and development of carbon-reduction technologies and the increased use of natural gas to displace coal as part of the bloc’s efforts to meet the aims of the Paris Agreement.

In a ‘manifesto’ published on Thursday, industry body umbrella group Gas Naturally said the “at least” 5,100 billion cubic metres of remaining natural gas in Europe, could cover 50% of Europe’s demand for another 25 years providing jobs and government revenues for decades.
