Spain routinely allowing unauthorised pesticides use, environmentalists claim

Spanish authorities have been “routinely” allowing the use of unauthorised and often highly toxic pesticides, according to the NGO Ecologistas en Acción

Spanish authorities have been allowing the use of unauthorised and often highly toxic pesticides “routinely, continuously and sometimes before any sign of problems have appeared in crops”, according to the NGO Ecologistas en Acción.

The NGO says this breaches the European Parliament’s 2009 plant protection products regulation, whose article 53 allows emergency use of such products for a maximum of 120 days and only in the case “of a danger which cannot be contained by any other reasonable means”.
