The European Parliament called for tighter limits on pollutants and improved access to safe water supplies as it adopted on Tuesday its position on a proposed revision of 20-year-old EU rules on the quality of drinking water,
MEP Michel Dantin, tasked with steering the proposal through the assembly, welcomed the adoption by 300 votes to 98 – with 274 abstentions – of his report into the European Commission's proposed recast of the 1998 Drinking Water Directive (DWD).
