Campaigners have called on EU environment ministers not to water down European Commission proposals, supported by MEPs, to ban a range of disposable plastic products.

The Break Free from Plastic and Global 2000 environmental groups wrote to Austrian environment minister Elisabeth Köstinger on Monday as she hosted an informal EU Council summit. On arriving in Graz, ministers were met by protests and a giant banner demanding "EU: Stopp Plastik" draped on the town’s castle.
