Seven European governments have called on the European Commission to present a long awaited action plan for tackling deforestation by the end of 2018.
Danish environment minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen wrote last week to the EU executive on behalf of the Amsterdam Declarations Partnership, which includes the governments of Denmark, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands and Norway.
Despite being instructed by the European Parliament and EU Council in the 7th Environmental Action Plan in 2013 to develop a strategy to tackle deforestation and degradation, and a renewed call by the Parliament, the Commission has yet to deliver.
