The UK’s post-Brexit relationship with the EU - and its future environmental standards - have been thrown into doubt after a day of political drama in London.
On Wednesday evening, prime minister Theresa May’s cabinet approved a withdrawal agreement between UK and European Commission negotiators. But by Thursday, half a dozen ministers had resigned, including Brexit secretary Dominic Raab.
The withdrawal agreement and political declaration would commit the UK to upholding environmental standards during the Brexit transition period and maintaining a “level playing field” in a future trade agreement.
