Environmental groups have appealed to centre-left MEPs to back European Commission proposals to exclude incinerators and other residual waste facilities from EU cohesion and regional development funding after the Socialists and Democrats group rapporteur in the committee responsible proposed allowing support to some plants.

An amendment to the European Commission’s proposals on post-2020 EU cohesion and regional development funds, tabled by regional development committee (REGI) rapporteur Andrea Cozzolino (S&D), would permit support for residual waste plants classified as recovery facilities.
