The next round of the EU’s flagship programme for environmental projects should receive almost €2 billion in extra funding, the European Parliament’s environment committee agreed today.

Voting on the European Commission’s proposal for the 2021-2017 LIFE programme, MEPs approved an amendment to boost its funding from €5.5 billion to €7.3 billion.

LIFE projects related to the environment would receive an extra €1.2 billion on the Commission’s proposal, with smaller increases earmarked for two sub-programmes, one focusing on biodiversity and the other on the circular economy and quality of life.
