European transport ministers this week agreed to explore possible EU action to tackle rising greenhouse gas output from aviation, amid growing pressure to end airlines' exemption from fuel taxes, ENDS has learned.
At an EU Council summit on Thursday, ministers discussed a paper from the Luxembourg delegation suggesting ways that pricing could be used to drive a reduction in emissions. “Luxembourg deems that the polluter pays principle should form the basis of any system,” it said.
