Environment ministers are set to call on the European Commission to speed up work on chemicals policy, and demand delivery of an overdue ‘strategy for a non-toxic environment’

Environment ministers are set to call on the EU Commission to accelerate work on a sustainable chemicals policy strategy and demand the delivery of an overdue ‘strategy for a non-toxic environment’ at an EU Council summit on 26 June, according to a document seen by ENDS.

Ministers will instruct the EU executive to develop “without further delay, a Union strategy for a non-toxic environment in close collaboration with the member states and the union institutions”, the document reads, noting “with concern” that the Commission has failed to meet its 2018 deadline.
