A proposal by the presidency of the EU Council would allow governments to continue subsidising coal power until the late 2030, climate campaigners have said.

A draft proposal by Austria for interinstitutional negotiations on future electricity market regulations backed the least ambitious of the options on the table for the future of capacity mechanisms.

Member states and MEPs are negotiating the future of the controversial capacity schemes used by governments to subsidise energy generators.
