Calls are mounting to ban the widely used pesticide chlorpyrifos, which has known endocrine disrupting properties, from the European market when its current authorisation expires on 31 January 2020.

Based on the analysis of publicly available EU data on pesticide residues in 791 foods, the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) and Pesticide Action Network Europe showed that the substance is among the most frequently found in unprocessed food produced and consumed in Europe, especially in citrus fruits.
