Three EU-wide petitions on environmental issues are set to open to the public in the coming weeks

Three EU-wide petitions on environmental issues will open to the public in the coming weeks after the European Commission gave the go-ahead to Citizens' Initiatives calling for a carbon pricing, further restrictions on plastics, and lighter regulation of GMOs.

The EU executive agreed on Wednesday to register a Citizens’ Initiative calling for the introduction of a CO2 tax in Europe, setting a minimum carbon price, abolishing free emissions allowances for industry and establishing a border adjustment mechanism for imports.
