The French government has described as a “world first” plans to accelerate a “change of production and consumption patterns” and boost the circular economy, with sweeping measures to tackle waste and boost recycling.

A ban on the disposal of unsold non-food items, a deposit scheme to reduce plastic pollution and a bonus for manufacturers of environmentally friendly products are some of the elements of an anti-waste law tabled in Paris on Wednesday.
