Campaigners have accused the European Commission of hindering the development of methods to test for a new generation of genetically modified food and feed imports.

Friends of the Earth Europe and the Corporate Europe Observatory claim that DG SANTE, the Commission directorate responsible for food safety testing, blocked research into testing for so-called ‘GMO 2.0’ products in April 2017 at a meeting of the European Network of GMO Laboratories (ENGL), leaving member states unable to test imported food and feed.
