Chemicals industry claims early success of safety data initiative

Nearly 60 chemical producers and importers have committed to re-evaluating the safety data in their REACH registration dossiers, according to industry body Cefic

Nearly 60 chemical producers and importers have committed to re-evaluating the safety data in their REACH registration dossiers, according to industry body Cefic, following a voluntary initiative launched in June.

More than 650 chemical producers and importers were found earlier this year to have failed to provide vital chemical safety data, which was undermining REACH’s ‘no data, no market’ principle. According to the German environment agency, as many as a third of REACH registrations could be non-compliant, with toxicity data absent for several heavily used chemicals registered by major companies.
