Several EU regions could suffer from power generation problems due to water scarcity caused by heatwaves and climate change, a new report by the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) has warned.

In an analysis published on Monday, the JRC urges policymakers to consider water and energy policies in tandem, particularly because water shortages could hit the EU’s plans to cut carbon emissions if it relies on water-intensive energy sources such as nuclear.
