A paper recycling industry group has called on the EU to intervene to protect the sector from the “crisis” caused by import restrictions imposed by China, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EURIC), which represents traders, collectors, sorters and processors, warned that “disproportionate and discriminatory” bans on recycling imports by China and other Asian countries had left the sector in crisis with increasing numbers of collection and recovery companies ceasing operations.
