Upcoming negotiations over the future of a global aviation emissions offsetting scheme pose a threat to the EU’s ability to regulate the sector’s carbon emissions, according to the new chair of the European Parliament’s environment committee.

Pascal Canfin, a former head of WWF-France, told ENDS that the next general assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), taking place between 24 September and 4 October, will be challenging for European negotiators.
