Draft plans to meet the EU’s 2030 energy and climate commitments suggest governments are doing little to cut subsidies for fossil fuels, according to a report published on Monday.
Governments are given a large degree of freedom in their strategies to cut emissions in line with the EU's 40% target for 2030, but the 2018 regulation mandating they produce National Energy and Climate Plans requires governments to report on “national objectives to phase out energy subsidies, in particular for fossil fuels”.
