EU exporting environmental damage to the global south

The EU’s model of consumption needs “radical change” if it is not simply to export its environmental impact to developing countries, according to Socialist MEP Udo Bullmann

The EU’s model of consumption needs “radical change” if it is not simply to export its environmental impact to developing countries, the MEP and former leader of the Socialist & Democrats group Udo Bullmann has said.

The German lawmaker was taking part in a discussion of a recent report into the extent to which European policies damage the environment and prevent progress towards UN 2030 sustainable development goals.

“There is no gain if we modernise successfully as the European union and push all the other countries into a dark age because all the dirty work is exported to them,” he said.
