Environmental campaigners have accused central and eastern European countries of ignoring their role in making forests vulnerable to the climate crisis while calling for EU support for the bioeconomy.

Agriculture ministers from the Visegrad Group of EU member states (Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia), as well as Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia published a joint statement on forest management and climate adaptation ahead of an Agriculture Council meeting next week which will discuss a post-2020 EU forest strategy
