European institutions and companies are set to work together on an industrial strategy for green hydrogen, senior EU officials and CEOs said at an event in Brussels on Wednesday.

The European Commission’s industry directorate-general, DG GROW, launched a new hydrogen initiative, developed with the trade association Hydrogen Europe, at the ‘Hydrogen for Climate Action’ conference.

It will be the EU’s fourth such initiative, known as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI). One on microelectronics was approved last year and two on batteries for electric vehicles are currently under development.
