Canfin urges reform as MEPs object again to GMO authorisations

The European Commission’s authorisations of genetically modified crops against the majority wishes of lawmakers is an 'aberration', according to the chair of the European Parliament's ENVI committee

The chair of the European Parliament's environment committee has described as an “aberration” the European Commission’s repeated authorisations of genetically modified crops against the wishes of a majority of lawmakers. 

“In recent years the Commission has continued to authorise GMOs although there is no majority either in the Council or the Parliament,” Pascal Canfin said. “We must put an end to this aberration in the framework of the Green Deal.”
