The EU requires a new strategy for the Arctic to take into account the “dramatic” changes the region is undergoing, a top EU diplomat has said.
As officials gathered in Iceland for the annual Arctic Circle Assembly, Marie-Anne Coninsx, the EU’s ambassador at large for Arctic affairs, urged the Finnish presidency of the EU Council to push for an updated Arctic policy.
It is “not the case that the current EU Arctic strategy is wrong, but the situation now and ahead of us is so dramatic that the new strategy is necessary,” she said.
