Tax single-use plastics, EU governments told

EU governments should adopt new taxes and put in place stringent targets to cut the use of single-use cups, food and beverage containers, as well as cutlery and plates, a coalition of environmental groups has said. 

Rethink Plastic, an alliance including organisations such as Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and Zero Waste Europe, published on Tuesday a series of recommendations “to swiftly transition” to a reuse culture. The report says that current business models are a barrier to change.
