‘Match Green Deal ambition with funds’, EU leaders told

Environmental activists are calling on EU leaders to respond to public protests and increase funding for the climate policies announced by the incoming European Commission.

European heads of government and state will debate the EU’s post-2020 seven year budget, the multi-annual financial framework (MFF), in the European Council on Thursday and Friday.

NGOs said leaders must translate incoming European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen’s promise of a ‘green deal’ into reality. The president-designate’s green pledges include carbon net-neutrality by 2050, an increased 2030 climate target, a carbon border tax and a Sustainable Europe Investment Plan.
