The European Commission’s plans for a ‘green deal’ should encourage more organic farming and crack down on food waste, organic farming lobby IFOAM said on Wednesday as it celebrated World Food Day. 

IFOAM president Jan Plagge, who chairs the Commission’s civil dialogue group on the Common Agriculture Policy, said that “organic farming is a successful way to protect biodiversity, to make agriculture part of the solution for the climate and to improve farmers’ livelihoods.”
