Europe “needs to act urgently” to halt deforestation, Italy's agriculture minister said on Monday during an EU Council debate that saw broad support for addressing the EU's role in driving a global loss of tree cover.
Giuseppe L'Abbate was speaking after environment commissioner Karmenu Vella outlined the five areas for action set out in a July communication from the EU executive, focusing on establishing deforestation-free supply chains.
