A senior European Commission official has warned that programmes to support coal regions to move away from the fossil fuel will fail without more private sector funding.
Speaking at the sixth working group meeting of the Platform for Coal Regions in Transition in Brussels on Wednesday, the deputy director general of the Commission’s energy directorate, Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, warned participants that attracting private investment into coal regions must be “put into motion now”.
