‘Unforgivable’: Green groups condemn murders of Romanian forest rangers

Environmental groups have demanded the European Commission and the Romanian government to put a stop to large-scale illegal deforestation in the country following the murders of two rangers

An alliance of environmental groups has demanded the European Commission and the Romanian government to put a stop to large-scale illegal deforestation in the country following the murders of two rangers in October.

In a letter to Romanian president Klaus Iohannis, the organisations describe their “shock” upon learning about the killings of forest rangers Liviu Pop and Raducu Gorcioaia in separate incidents this month. Pop was shot dead while investigating illegal logging in the Maramure? region bordering Ukraine.
