Methane emissions associated with imported gas could undermine EU climate action, according to a report published just days after the outgoing European Commission agreed to prioritise new gas pipelines and LNG terminals.

Methane’s far greater capacity to trap heat than carbon dioxide means that it accounts for a quarter of current global warming, the Environmental Defence Fund (EDF) has warned in a report published on Monday.
