Members of the European Parliament discussed on Wednesday ways of blocking the controversial inclusion of more than 50 fossil fuel infrastructure projects on the EU’s latest priority list, arguing it is incompatible with the bloc’s climate goals.

The European Commission faced criticism last month when presenting the draft list of projects of common interest (PCI) to the parliament’s Industry Committee (ITRE), but went ahead with its adoption at the end of the month, sparking fierce criticism from environmental campaigners.
