The incoming European Commission must deliver an overdue strategy on the ‘non-toxic environment’ as a matter of urgency, environmental campaigners have told president-elect Ursula von der Leyen, citing growing scientific evidence of the extent of contamination.

A raft of European and national organisations, including the Health and Environment Alliance, Rethink Plastic Alliance and Client Earth, welcomed von der Leyen's pledge to tackle chemical pollution and “complementary words” from incoming environment commissioner Virginijus Sinkevicius.
