The European Parliament will decide next week whether the EU should declare a state of environmental and climate emergency, just days before world leaders convene to discuss implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Leaders of the main political groups in the assembly agreed on Thursday to hold the vote during a plenary session. “The next five years must be a game changer for our climate and our environment and our actions should be driven with a sense of emergency,” said Dacian Ciolos, president of the liberal Renew group, which tabled the motion.
