EPP endorses 2050 net zero goal in vision for ‘sustainable planet’

“Ambitious but feasible” targets to make the EU carbon neutral by 2050 are among the policies adopted by the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP) at its congress on Thursday.

The EPP, the largest political group in the European Parliament, confirmed its support for the incoming European Commission’s ambition to reduce emissions by at least 50% by 2030.

Speaking at the congress, Commission president-elect Ursula von der Leyen said that the objective is “to balance our climate goals with an ambitious industrial strategy” creating “an environment that is favourable for entrepreneurship”.
