Energy-from-waste sector raises questions over latest Best Available Techniques

Energy recovery trade body the Confederation of European Waste to Energy Plants (CEWEP) has said emissions measurement uncertainty 'needs to be tackled' as the EU published a Waste Incineration Best Available Techniques (WI BAT) document in its official journal.

The WI BAT was published on Tuesday after a five-year review process. The document was signed off earlier this summer when member states voted to back it.

The document sets new emissions, monitoring and efficiency standards intended to help national authorities to lower the environmental impact of the waste incineration sector in the EU.
