Campaigners accuse EU executive of bowing to industry over chemicals policy

The European Commission is considering adopting an innovation-based approach to reducing the impact of the chemicals industry instead of delivering an overdue 'non-toxic environment' strategy and rolling out stricter regulations, campaigners have said, citing leaked internal documents.

The European Environment Bureau said on Monday that a recent draft of the forthcoming European Green Deal implied the EU executive was considering a broader 'chemicals innovation strategy'. Moreover, the document appeared to lack references to a 'strategy on sustainable chemicals' and a 'package of regulatory measures' seen in an earlier draft leaked to the press on 28 November.
