UK’s Johnson makes bold green pledges after election victory

UK prime minister Boris Johnson has promised to make the UK the “cleanest, greenest [country] on Earth”, following his party’s largest general election victory since the 1980s.

"You voted to be carbon neutral by 2050 and we will do it,” he said, as he claimed an overwhelming win in the country’s general election.

“Getting Brexit done is now the irrefutable, irresistible, unarguable decision of the British people,” Johnson said, putting “an end to all those miserable threats of a second referendum”. His withdrawal deal is expected to be presented to parliament on Friday next week, immediately after the Queen’s speech.
