EU governments urge action on deforestation

EU member states have called on the European Commission to assess measures on deforestation following the publication of proposals earlier this year.

Government agriculture ministers at the Council of the EU on Monday welcomed the Commission’s July communication on action to protect forests. The proposed framework of actions includes demand- and supply-side measures, including enhanced global cooperation, sustainable finance, better land use, sustainable supply chain management, and regulations to minimise impacts of EU consumption on forests.
